Tobi Schwartz-Cassell

A life-long Democrat, Tobi was never active in politics. She and her husband Stan had just moved to Haddon Township, and she was paging through the Haddon Township calendar. There she saw a reference to this club. She connected with the notable, and very missed, Frank Monzo who welcomed her to the group and soon began mentoring her in the basics of politics.

In June 2020, Tobi founded a private Facebook group, developed so that members could share their political opinions privately but openly with like-minded people. More than anything, it is a work group with the goal of electing Democrats to office throughout the country and up and down the ballot. There are now 6,650 members.

Tobi started her career as a newscaster in Philadelphia, spending a total of 20 years, (part- and full-time). She eventually left the field to become an advertising copywriter at Kalish & Rice Advertising and John Wanamaker in Philadelphia.

When the opportunity presented itself, she agreed to co-author a book on long-term care, which opened doors for her to write for local consumer magazines and national trade publications.

In 2006, she founded Girlfriendz Magazine, where she interviewed, among many others, Marlo Thomas, Barbara Eden, Tina Louise, Diahann Carroll, Wanda Sykes, Mayim Bialik, Dionne Warwick and Margaret Cho. She’s won a number of awards, including those from 95.7 BEN-FM and NAWBO.

Currently, she runs Franks & Beans Events—an offshoot of Girlfriendz Magazine. It began in 2008, and is devoted to hosting fun events for women at area restaurants.
